When I was first certified in Reflexology the reaction I would usually get was “Reflexology, what’s that?” Today more people have heard of it and sessions are offered in many places. That being said, many still are not aware of what a reflexology session entails or what to expect. In a recent conversation with a friend he told me that he knew someone who could benefit from a session. He was not sure how to explain reflexology especially since this friend was not familiar with alternative modalities. A great suggestion for a blog, so here is what you should know if you are interested in a session.
For your first appointment you can either go on my website www.timelessessence.net and complete a client information form or come in a few minutes early and complete the form in my office. Once that is done we discuss the reason for your appointment. Some people come in to reduce stress, others have foot issues such as plantar fasciitis. There are many reasons for an appointment and it gives me a direction for the session.
A reflexology session takes one hour. The entire time I work on your feet. The reason is that the entire body is reflected in the feet. Here is a chart that maps out the points on the feet:
As you can see each organ is reflected. Also energy meridians are reflected on the feet. Using my fingers to apply pressure on these points the organs and meridians are stimulated. You advise me as to the amount of pressure that is comfortable for you.
At the beginning of a session I wipe down your feet. There is relaxing music and essential oils are diffused to aid in relaxation. You are welcome to close your eyes and sleep or you can talk during the session. It is whatever works for you. There are times that I may use an essential oil on a pressure point to boost that point or aid in energy release. You may experience tenderness on a point. That may be a result of an energy block or an issue you have in that area. An example may be clients who have sinus issues may have tenderness in the toes. After working the points the tenderness is gone. Clients have claimed that their sinuses have drained right after a session, sometimes it happens while I am working on their feet.
Reflexology is about bringing balance and opening the energy meridians to allow the body to function at its best. At the end of a session I open the chakras that are aligned along the spine and send energy through the chakra system. After a session clients claim that they feel relaxed and refreshed. They also say that their feet feel light, as though they are walking on a cloud.
Things to do:
– Do not eat 30 minutes before a session
– After a session increase your water intake for the next couple of days to flush toxins that are released in session. Reflexology helps detoxify the body.
My clients find reflexology physically relaxes, mentally reduces stress and emotionally gives them a lift. If you would like to experience the benefits of reflexology please contact me for an appointment at 443-864-2594.
