We are quickly approaching the holiday season. It is a frenzy of shopping, cooking, getting our homes ready to celebrate. These activities are enjoyable since they are family oriented. At times they may be stress inducing which can take the fun out of the holidays. Here are a few helpful tips to assist you in reducing stress.
Deep breathing exercises- Start your day relaxed. You can do it in the morning, before you get out of bed, in the shower or in the car. Deep breathing is probably the best and easiest way to relieve stress. This is what you do:
1. You can sit or stand, slowly breathe in through your nose to the count of 5 (allow the air to expand your stomach then the chest.)
2. Slowly exhale through your mouth to the count of 10. Do this several times.
Listen to music. Studies show that music triggers bio- chemical stress reducers in the body. So go to your music collection or turn on your radio. Studies also show that black tea reduces post-stress cortisol levels. Get a massage or reflexology session. Taking one hour out of a stressful week will give you anew outlook on life.
If you incorporate these ideas into your routine your holiday should be more of a celebration. Enjoy the season!
